Poplar Hill Mansion Gets a Facelift
Spring/Summer 2010
The Mansion's exterior is being restored by Ageless Treasures,
a local company, through a facade grant from Urban Salisbury
to the Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion.
Above, the East side is painted the final coat June, 2010.
Below, the shutters are being painted a very dark green.
The chimneys are being repaired
and repointed through the
same grant and by approval of Maryland Historic Trust.
The bucket truck is being used
to reach the peaks of the
Mansion which are over 42'
from the ground.
The scaffolding, in the photo
below, in the rear of the Mansion is used by the brick mason.
The wood is being carefully inspected and the siding is being replaced with
cypress as it would have been used in the original builing of the Mansion
with construction beginning in 1795.
If you look carefully in the following 2 photographs you will see
Roman numerals scratched into the beams to note their proper
placement for support.
We understand that during this restoration the Mansion does not look its best.
Thank you for being patient, as the finished product will be well worth it.
Special thanks to Allan Hope of Urban Salisbury, James Ireton, Jr., Mayor
of Salisbury, Jeff Smith and his crew from Ageless Treasures, and the Board
of Directors and Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion.
