Poplar Hill Mansion Gets A Facelift Inside and Out

 Restoration is now complete at
Poplar Hill Mansion, Salisbury's
 Federal house museum,
on the main floor hallway, the parlor,
and the second floor hallway. Visit the mansion to see all of the vibrant paint colors added during the paint restoration!

Five years ago a paint analysis team, Croxon and Ward, identified the colors and finishes used in the home 200 years ago.

Below and to the left is the archway in the main hall.
Sue Ellen, from Ageless Treasures, is applying one of several coats of paint to
obtain a faux marble look.

The monies for this ambitious project came from an
endowment fund managed by the
Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore
and by several
Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion.

Below is a photo of the archway
before the work was started.

Exterior Restoration

The Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion applied for and received a Facade Grant from Urban Salisbury with the help of Allan Hope, Executive Director
.

Ageless Treasures, owned by Jeff Smith, a local MHIC licensed contract and his crew spent 3 1/2 months working on the Mansion.
The above photo shows him, right, working on the back steps.

Above, proper procedures were taken to comply with EPA regulations using a
HEPA vacuum.

Look closely to see the Roman numerals etched so the original builders knew where the beams were to be placed.

All portions of the Mansion were brushed rather than spray painted.

Above, both the east and west chimneys were repointed and repaired.  A boom truck was needed to extend to the top of the Mansion, which is 4 1/2 stories tall.

Scaffolds were also used to reach the chimneys.
